Police raid uncovers illicit tobacco and vapes

A police raid on a gift and accessories store in Orr Street, Yarrawonga has resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit tobacco and vapes.

Police from Yarrawonga and Cobram’s Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) conducted the raid at 9.30am, Friday, July 12.

Cobram CIU Detective Sergeant Marcus Boyd said the raid could have prevented over $100,000 in illegal sales from the shop.

“We executed a search warrant and as a result seized a substantial amount of illicit tobacco worth $44,940, including 6.3 kilograms of loose tobacco or chop chop, along with 335 vapes and an undisclosed amount of cash,” Det Sgt Boyd said.

Det Sgt Boyd said a 27-year-old St Albans man is being questioned by police and expects charges to follow.
