The new network is set to transition to the permanent routes on the first day of term one next year and continues to be free for students as they move into the new school.
With 26 routes, the network aims to make services more efficient for travel and includes a new bus interchange with 13 bus bays on Hawdon St.
Victorian Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said the new network was created with community feedback in mind.
“This new school bus network will make services more efficient and provide an important connection for Shepparton students to schools across the town,” he said.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the bus network would ensure students attending GSSC in the new year had free, streamlined transportation.
“We have worked to create a bus network for Shepparton students that streamlines services and provides better connections to enable them to travel safely to and from school,” he said.
The bus routes maintain existing connections with the primary schools in the area as well as independent and private schools.
Kialla’s St Anne’s College will also gain two bus routes to service the Kialla area.
State Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed said the decision to extend the bus network to include two new services to Kialla, came after her talks between the school and the Department of Transport.
“We spoke to the school and together we figured out what stops the students needed in the service and presented the information to the Transport Department,” she said.
“While the department assessed their overall plans for streamlining the school bus services, they made sure our St Anne’s students were included in the plan.
“I am delighted that we were able to assist some of the 330 students who attend the Catholic P-12 college with a simple way to get to and from school every day.”
Education Minister James Merlino said the new network went hand-in-hand with the new impressive education facility.
“The new Shepparton school is a landmark for the entire Goulburn Valley community — and we’re making sure all students have a great connection to and from the incredible new campus,” he said.
