President John Tonkin and other Menshed members recently presented $500 to Deniliquin CanAssist.
Its work supports local cancer sufferers and their families.
“We raised the money by selling recycled furniture, and through the small community jobs we complete,” Mr Tonkin said.
“As a not-for-profit, we feel we should donate back any additional funds we have to the community that supports us.
“We often help local organisations through our community projects, but what CanAssist really needs is funds.
“And we know they do so much for the people in our community.”
Deniliquin CanAssist president Kellie Crossley said she was humbled by the donation.
“Our branch is very grateful to receive this donation, which will go directly to a local community member who is unfortunately suffering a cancer diagnosis,” she said.
“All money raised or received by Deniliquin CanAssist stays in the local community.”
The Deniliquin Men’s Shed is a place which allows older men to remain active and social, while putting their handy skills to good use at the same time.
They complete projects for a commission, but the bulk of their work is for the community.
The Deniliquin Menshed is located directly behind Deniliquin Agspares on Barham Rd.
It is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with ‘smoko’ from 10am to 3pm.
