Co-organiser Cate Burke said the Beyond The Blues music day next month will feature local musicians and a Melbourne-based blues band performing from 2pm to 9pm to raise money for the non-profit charity which supports people battling mental health problems.
“To support Beyond Blue and the incredible work they do for those with mental health issues in rural areas such as ours and beyond, we are gathering some great musicians to entertain the crowd, we'll also have raffles and auctions on the day,” Ms Burke said.
She said Shepparton musician Ken Wong is mustering a line-up of local talent with a super group being formed especially for the event - the John Buckworth Big Combo.
Players include John Buckworth, John O’Sullivan, Ian Barford, Kelli Howell, Shane Muir, Billy Bradley, Ken Wong, Frank Magee and Longwood bluesman Neale Williams.
Ms Burke said music will focus on the blues alongside timeless classics from Van Morrison, Neil Young, The Bee Gees, The Beatles and The Stones among many others.
As well, Shepparton duo Shane and The Wong Brother will perform their popular mix of tunes from the 60s and 70s and contemporary songs.
Melbourne's Dollar 20 Blues Band will also appear.
“It’s a day to connect with music and friends, make new friends, shake off the dancing cobwebs, eat, drink and be merry whilst supporting a great cause,” Ms Burke said.
Beyond the Blues takes place at the White Hart hotel, Longwood from 2pm to 9pm on Saturday, October 19.
Entry is gold coin with all proceeds going to Beyond Blue.
