The Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society has announced Liza Hearmon, from Locksley, the winner of its 2024 scholarship.
The scholarship aims to help young students in the district who want to contribute to rural Australia.
Ms Hearmon is enrolled in a Bachelor of Agricultural Science course at the University of Melbourne’s Dookie campus.
She is president of the university’s agriculture society and is also on its meat judging team, competing nationally.
“Ms Hearmon is also particularly interested in genetics and animal nutrition,” a Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society spokesperson said.
“Her varied interests and skills will help make her a valued person as she enters work in agriculture after graduation.
“Currently, she is a skilled wool classer and works as such when not at university.
“The Seymour ag society wishes Liza every success and looks forward to bright things to come for this highly motivated young person.”
The society invites applications for the scholarship of $5000 each year from those seeking a career in the areas of agriculture or land and water management.
Others with a goal of contributing to rural Australia may also be considered.
