A haystack, farm sheds and four hectares of paddocks were burned before firefighters contained a grass fire at the corner of Byrneside-Kyabram Rd and Lancaster-Mooroopna Rd on Monday.
The CFA was called to near Lancaster at 2.20pm and on arrival crews found a paddock fire with one haystack alight.
There were initial concerns for a nearby house, but crews were able to protect the building. Some sheds were impacted by fire.
Twenty CFA vehicles, including tankers and support vehicles, fought the fire, along with air support.
A CFA spokesperson said it was believed the fire may have been started by a hot exhaust pipe from a car on dry grass.
The fire was brought under control shortly before 4.10pm, with fire crews remaining on scene afterwards to black out land.
