All six weekend pennant divisions start today, with all eyes on how the opening round of the division one Allen Matheson plays out.
Shepparton Golf was gearing up for a tilt at clinching a staggering fifth Allen Matheson Shield in a row, as the competition heavyweights travel to Hill Top for the season opener.
If Golf's performances during the recent state men's over-60 singles and men's triples titles was anything to go by, the reigning premier was set for another big campaign.
Meanwhile, last year's division two premiers Euroa walks out under the roof at Shepparton Park for its first match since being promoted to first division.
Stanhope travels to Nagambie and East Shepparton welcomes Kyabram in the remaining Allen Matheson Shield matches.
● In the lower grades, division two premiership contenders Tallygaroopna take on Mooroopna on its home deck.
Tallygaroopna was the talk of the competition after luring across former Benalla coach Matthew Robertson.
Joining Robertson at Tally are Dwight Goodman and Tom Goodman and Shepparton Golf’s Brett Gunning.
Elsewhere, after being relegated from the top tier, Seymour starts its journey in division two with a battle at home against Tatura.
Rounding out the remaining matches, Kyabram welcomes Shepparton Park and Shepparton Golf hosts Hill Top.
And last year's division four premier Shepparton Park starts its division three campaign with an away game to Mooroopna Golf.
At division four level, Tallygaroopna was out to continue its winning ways after last year's historic first GVBD premiership for the club.
Lastly, reigning division six premiers Hill Top gets a crack at tackling the division five title with an opening away game to Stanhope.
● In other news, Seymour VRI and Murchison have withdrawn teams from the weekend division six season.
The news came during the week on the eve of the season, which has seen Seymour VRI (division six East) and Murchison (division six West) replaced as byes.
The decision from GVBD to include a bye has been made to try and create as little disruption as possible to the fixture, with each division six team now set to have two byes this season.
