A division one grand final rematch — with East hosting perennial premier Shepparton Golf — headlines the evening, while a division three battle between the hosts and Mooroopna Golf will thrust lower-grade bowls into the limelight.
It is not the first time this season the Mooroopna Golfers will taste prime time action — having taken on Shepparton Park on a Friday night in round eight — and East coach Daniel Nichols hopes more sides will take advantage of the timeslot as the year progresses.
“It is so good to have a lower division game on a Friday night as well,” Nichols said.
“Everyone always thinks they're just for division one matches, but with Shepparton Park's facility and now our facility I don't see why there can't be a Friday night game every round moving forward, no matter what the division.
“Even if Stanhope wanted to host Kyabram on a Friday night at one of our venues for example, as long as all the managers agreed to it I can't see why it shouldn't happen.”
Nichols will kick-off proceedings just before 6 pm by shaving his head in the name of raising funds for bushfire relief, putting his locks on the line to secure $1500 for the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund at the time of writing.
“I started off looking for $1000, Stanhope and Nagambie both put in $200 and Shepparton Golf raised $600 at their Kitchenwise tournament on Sunday,” Nichols said.
“We're up to around $1500 at the moment, so hopefully we can raise at least another $500 on Friday night, all of those funds will go to bushfire disaster relief.”
East's new undercover green is all-but ready for action, with those in attendance tomorrow night able to see the facility in all its glory when the lights are switched on.
In terms of the contests themselves, Nichols is confident his division one charges can produce a much better scoreline than in last season's decider.
“I actually think we're in a better position for Friday night than what we were in last year's grand final,” he said.
“Hopefully we can give a good showing and roll them, and the division three game is second against third so that should be exciting too.”
