Greater Shepparton City Council has opened applications to its FReeZA Event Grant Program to help support the delivery of music, cultural and recreational events within the community.
It is inviting the community to apply for funding from the $40,000 pool to deliver youth-designed and -led events across Greater Shepparton, with individual grants of between $1000 and $10,000 dished out to successful applicants.
The funding is part of council’s FReeZA program, which the Victorian Government provides.
The program’s purpose is to display young people’s skills and talents while celebrating and recognising the important contribution they make to cultural life and community.
The events must be drug-, alcohol-, vape- and smoke-free and should reflect the broad interests of young people and local youth culture, which might include music, sport, dance, festivals, art, First Nations history, as well as social, wellbeing and educational opportunities, and events that celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
“This grant program provides the opportunity for young people to lead the design and delivery of events, activities and programs that respond to the local youth culture,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“I encourage local groups that work with young people to be creative and innovative to design and deliver a diverse range of projects through this funding program.”
The capacity of an organisation or individual to manage the project will be assessed, and preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate the required skills, structure and planning to see the project through.
Applications for the FReeZA Event Grant Program close on Friday, August 30 at 5pm. For further information on the grant and how to apply, visit https://greatershepparton.com.au/community/grants-and-funding/freeza-community-grants
