Grant recipients can allocate funds for various purposes, including purchasing equipment, developing volunteer skills, and offsetting travel costs.
28 local volunteer groups will receive grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, sharing the total funding of nearly $60,000.
Mr Birrell said the funds will go a long way in supporting the efforts of volunteers and boosting volunteer participation.
“While the grants are small, they will have a much bigger impact on our community,” Mr Birrell said.
“During the last few years sporting clubs and community organisations have suffered a lot of disruption and this funding will help to rebuild, reconnect and provide support.
Mr Birrell thanked volunteers for their continued dedication to the community.
“Volunteers bring communities together and drive physical and social wellbeing of residents,” he said.
“Community groups, projects, services, and events would not and could not go ahead without the efforts of volunteers.”
Groups to receive funding are; Shepparton United Cricket Club, Rotary Club Of Rochester, Dookie RSL, Echuca-Moama Model Railway Club, Networking African Australians, Kyabram Community And Learning Centre, Cobram Barooga Canoe Club, Tungamah Kickstart, Echuca Bowls Club, Goulburn Murray Landcare Network, Neighbourhood House Murchison, Kyabram Football Netball Club, Tongala Football Netball Club and Bohollow Wildlife Shelter.
