The aim of the retail crime forum is to bring Victoria Police, local retailers and key stakeholders together to work towards practical and collaborative solutions to the problem.
Victoria Police says the increase in retail crime is not exclusive to Greater Shepparton, with retailers across the state experiencing similar issues.
Shepparton police have been working closely with the Greater Shepparton Business Network on local issues.
“The Greater Shepparton Business Network understand the importance of the crime forum for not only our members, but the wider community,” GSBN vice president Jac McCarty said.
“Partnering with Victoria Police to ensure local businesses can be involved and heard is an integral step towards strengthening connections and working together for a collaborative solution.”
The forum will give participants an insight into current retail crime trends and an opportunity to share experiences and concerns, learn practical strategies to better protect their businesses and staff, and forge stronger connections with police, stakeholders and other local retailers.
Police say a collaborative approach to tackling the problem will improve staff safety, increase police response to retail crime, and support a safer environment for the entire community.
The retail crime forum will be held at 6pm on Thursday, May 21 at Shepparton’s La Trobe University in Fryers St.
