Ms Smider entered the Country News competition after seeing it advertised in the Kyabram Free Press, into which Country News is inserted each week.
“I like knowing what’s going on around the area, so after following Country News’ Facebook page, I entered the competition and answered and shared the question (Which animal best herds sheep?),” Ms Smider said.
"It’s been a great way to keep up with what’s going on.“
A couple of weeks after entering the competition, stormwater flowed in to the house after rain.
“It wrecked carpet and flooring in the kitchen and dining area and we’ve had to pull it up — it’s a mess,” Ms Smider said.
Needless to say, news of the win was most welcome.
“It’s amazing, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
The Year 1 teacher at Kyabram P-12 College, who moved to the town in 2020 from Geelong with husband Mat, said they were looking forward to getting their new flooring sorted.
“Hopefully in the school holidays,” she said.
McPherson Media Group’s Leonie Limosani thanked Shepparton Flooring Xtra’s Steve Cohen for supporting the promotion and the many hundreds of people who entered the competition.
Timely win: Mat and Doreen Smider and Shepparton Flooring Xtra’s Steve Cohen. Winning $3000 of flooring could not have come at a better time for the couple, whose carpets were ruined by stormwater recently.
