What’s your name?
My name is Gary Lawson.
How long have you lived in Shepparton?
I’ve lived in the Shepparton area for 80 years. I grew up here, then shifted out on to a farm and lived out there for nearly 50 years, and then moved back into Shepp again.
What do you like about being a part of the GV Kidney Support Group?
I lost a kidney about eight years ago and nearly bled to death (internally). I like being a part of the group because it’s a reason we’ve got to go out and something to look forward to.
How is your kidney going now?
That’s the thing when you get old. I’ve only got one kidney left, and it works at 50 per cent, so I was getting pretty worried. I went back to the specialist, and he said, “Oh, you’re lucky. Not many kidneys at your age work at 50 per cent.”
What’s your favourite part about living in Shepparton?
It’s easy to get somewhere and there are lots of services. Like living out on a farm, if you want an ambulance or something, you can wait hours.
