As part of a report to the council for the Tuesday, March 15, meeting, Cr Dobson will also ask councillors to write to the NSW Lands and Water Minister to advocate for regulation of floodplain harvesting, including incorporating the NSW Parliament’s upper house reforms to modify the volume of off-take and the licensing of unpermitted dams.
In his report Cr Dobson said regulation would ensure that anyone undertaking floodplain harvesting was required to comply with the Water Management Act 2000, that any water taken was metered and within the limits set by the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, and that this was monitored and enforced.
In what shapes as a quiet meeting, councillors will also consider three land acquisitions, two in the North East Growth Corridor.
Council officers propose to acquire a 5m-wide water supply easement along the eastern boundary of 430 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Shepparton North, which would allow rural water to be used for parkland rather than potable water.
A second acquisition would allow the extension of a drainage pipeline in the same area.
A third acquisition is for a drainage easement at 7835 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Kialla, to provide an outlet for runoff from the Seven Creeks Estate.
The 281 sq m section of land is currently part of the Big 4 Caravan Park.
The March council meeting is on Tuesday, March 15, from 3pm, and will be live-streamed.
