Children will be able to collect and sell yabbies to recreational fishers and bait and tackle stores. That’s under a new permit system that has been introduced by the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

The move has been welcomed by Steven Threlfall, owner of Trelly’s Outdoor in Shepparton, who believes it will encourage more children to take up yabby fishing.
“It’s bringing it back to grassroots things that kids do in the country, historically have done for years and years and years,” Mr Threlfall said.
