The information night, known as an entrée, will be held in a private room at the Rich River Golf Club on Wednesday, April 10, to gauge interest from locals who may want to participate further.
The Men’s Table is a non-for-profit organisation established in 2011 by David Pointon and Ben Hughes as a forum for discussing personal issues.
There are more than 200 tables across Australia which include more than 1600 men with table members’ ages ranging from 20 to 93.
The Men’s Table regional host for Victoria, Bill Karametos, is excited about the possibility of a new table forming in Echuca-Moama and discussed the benefits of men getting involved.
“We want men to be able to talk without being interrupted because it feels good to be able to do that and for the others to just listen rather than try to fix their problems,” he said.
“We want people who feel that this would be an asset to their life and are able to go out and meet new men and find their community.
“You’d be surprised how many men are craving this and want to share, it’s about being able to get things off your chest in a safe and confidential space.”
The purpose of the entrée is to simulate what a night would look like when Mr Karametos is not there to mediate.
They will discuss the fundamentals of the organisation and what the men are trying to achieve by being a part of the table.
Mr Karametos assured he could be contacted any time if there are any issues or questions regarding the table going forward but enjoys when the tables are self-managed.
“I try to pop in every six months and check in on the group,” he said.
“I’m still there for any of them to contact me if something went wrong whether someone has been rude or not listening.
“We really like when the tables can be self-managed so at our entrée we try to give them the tools to do that.”
Mr Karametos said he enjoys the opportunity to provide a platform for men in Australia to benefit from a good chat with other men who just want to listen.
“I’m lucky to have this job, to be able to connect men in a different way than what they are used to gives me great satisfaction and puts a big smile on my face,” he said.
“It’s the ability to help with the health and wellbeing of men all across Australia.”
