The event will highlight the positive impact the five Neighbourhood Houses in City of Greater Shepparton have had on the community.
“Each of the Neighbourhood Houses in our region played an integral role in the community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic last year when many households were in isolation,” Greater Shepparton City Council community wellbeing manager Melanie Holt said.
“Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre delivered over 2500kg of food in August last year while the community was in lockdown, while the Tatura Community Centre sent out messages of support to every local household.”
Neighbourhood House Week, which runs from Monday, May 9, until Sunday, May 15, is a national initiative that celebrates the role of more than 1000 Neighbourhood Houses across Australia.
Greater Shepparton is home to five Neighbourhood Houses, including South Shepparton Community Centre, North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre, Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, Tatura Community House and Neighbourhood House Murchison.
“Neighbourhood Houses provide a hub for community members to gather, connect and access support,” Ms Holt said.
“South Shepparton Community Neighbourhood House also offers emergency food relief for those in need.
“These Neighbourhood Houses play an extremely important role in the community and council is pleased to be able to recognise and celebrate their work, not only during Neighbourhood House Week but year round.”
