Every year, the Children's Book Council of Australia brings children and books together to celebrate literature.
Schools, libraries and bookshops across Australia will celebrate the event from August 17 to 23 with book character parades, book displays and themed book activities.
Shepparton's Bourchier Street Primary School is one of many schools across the region taking part in the educational celebration.
Bourchier Street educator Emma McLean said the school takes part in the event, as it teaches children about reading and shows them that reading can be fun.
“It’s so important to foster the love of reading,” Ms McLean said.
“It give kids the opportunity to enjoy books and kids who enjoy books turn into great readers."
Bourchier Street teachers and students will celebrate with a red carpet costume parade in the morning on Friday, August 23 and continue the celebrations throughout the day with rotational activities.
This year’s Book Week theme is 'Reading is my Secret Power' and the Children’s Book Council of Australia is encouraging parents and teachers to promote the celebrations by using the hashtag #CBCA2019 on their social media accounts.
Goulburn Valley Libraries are also celebrating Book Week and are encouraging everyone attending their events, including story time, to dress up as their favourite book character.
