This weekend, Stores for Paws will launch in Bunnings Warehouse nationwide, showcasing dogs of all breeds available for adoption.
The annual initiative aims to help local animal welfare groups address the rising number of pets without a home.
And the dog days certainly aren’t over at Bunnings Shepparton.
On Saturday, August 10, the local company will host its Stores for Paws event in partnership with the Greyhound Adoption Program.
Community members are encouraged to browse their hardware needs and the hounds in need and perhaps even consider welcoming a new family member into their home.
Last year, a monumental 450 pets were adopted, which the 310 Bunnings locations involved hope to exceed this year.
Undoubtedly, they will succeed as Stores for Paws comes at a critical time for pet adoption.
PetRescue, an Australian animal welfare charity, has reported an 8.5 per cent increase in pets listed for adoption, with about 200 new pets added to the PetRescue website daily.
According to PetRescue co-founder Vickie Davy, almost 10,000 pets are currently looking for a home, and she expects that number to continue growing fast and furr-iously.
“We had nearly 70,000 pets listed through our platform last year alone, and we anticipate a similar number this year,” she said.
“We work hard to help connect homeless pets all over Australia with a chance to find a place to call home.
“Stores for Paws is a great initiative to help towards this goal by giving them an opportunity to be seen, adored, and adopted.”
Each Bunnings store will organise local activities to support the campaign, such as adoption days, awareness tables, sausage sizzles, and a national pet-themed kids workshop.
The Greyhound Adoption Program will be at Bunnings Shepparton this Saturday, August 10, from 10am to 1pm.
