While Benalla’s RSL was busy planning and hosting two services, a march and various events on Anzac Day, another Benalla institution was doing its bit to support local veterans.
Benalla Bowls Club hosted a successful bowls tournament, drawing a fantastic number of participants, on April 25.
A club spokesperson said the weather was ideal, contributing to participants’ enjoyment.
“The winning team was a visiting squad from Tungamah, with congratulations extended to Jack Costigan, Tom Costigan and David Haebich for their victory,” the spokesperson said.
“In addition to the tournament, the club hosted the Benalla RSL luncheon, which was well attended by the local community, military personnel past and present, and RSL officials.
“The event fostered great camaraderie and lively banter among attendees, celebrating both friendship and remembrance.”
The club generously donated the proceeds from the day’s tournament and raffles —totalling $1000 — to the Benalla RSL.
Club chairman David Lindsay and chief executive Wendy Joseph presented the donation to RSL president Paul Harland.
Mr Lindsay remarked on the long-standing relationship between the club and the local RSL branch, expressing joy at seeing so many representatives from the RSL present at the club.
