The grant will allow council to deliver the 2023 Australia Day Awards and Ceremony at ClubMulwala on Thursday, January 26.
The formalities also include a Welcome to Country, a keynote address from the Ambassador, Ms Ange Clarke, announcement of the 2023 Federation Council Australia Day Awards including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year, presentation of the Student Achiever Awards, and a citizenship ceremony for residents who have applied to become Australian citizens.
Ange is founder and CEO of a purposefully-driven organisation ‘Where There’s A Will’ that empowers communities to build relationships with people who live with intellectual disabilities. She started the business in 2016 for her son who lives with Autism.
A free breakfast will be offered to the general public from 8 am to 10 am.
Free events for Seniors
Two grants to Federation Council will allow two free events in 2023 for senior residents aged over 60 years.
‘Something Old’ is all about acknowledging a time gone by and will be held at Morundah Paradise Palladium Theatre on Wednesday, February 8 starting at 11 am. The event includes a lunch, entertainment and bus transport.
‘Something New’ is all about the future and will be held at the Corowa RSL Club on Sunday, February 12 at 11 am. The event includes a lunch, live music and bus transport.
“Council's seniors celebrations are an opportunity for our older residents to join together and celebrate the role they play and the valuable contributions they make to the community,” council’s director corporate and community services Jo Shannon said at council’s monthly meeting on December 20.
“It allows senior residents of the Federation Council area to connect with each other, provides an opportunity to get out and about, learn new skills, participate in activities or just have fun and socialise.”
Council secured a 2023 NSW Seniors Festival Grant of $5,000 administered by the Department of Communities and Justice, along with a ClubGrant-Category 1 from the Corowa RSL Club for $4,000 to support the delivery of a 2023 NSW Seniors Festival initiative.
