The naming of a rest area in north Deniliquin to ‘Legends Rest Area’ was suggested by community members and endorsed by the Edward Shire Council recently.
This reflects the area being the location of the Deniliquin and District Transport Industry Wall of Fame honour board and memorial wall.
The community is now being invited to provide feedback on the decision over the next 28 days, before the name is formally adopted and submitted to the Geographical Names Board of NSW.
During the initial public submission period, council received about 30 name suggestions.
Mayor Ashley Hall said the name reflected the significance of the transport industry in Deniliquin, and honours the contributions of individuals recognised on the Wall of Fame.
“The name ‘Legends Rest Area’ pays tribute to the proud history and ongoing legacy of Deniliquin’s transport industry.
“It’s a fitting recognition of the legends who have shaped our community”.
