Owned by Chloe Donald and Cameron McGavin, the converted café trailer officially opened on February 5 after the pair decided to take a leap into small business together.
The two previously worked at a Rushworth café, with Chloe running the kitchen while Cameron handled front of house.
“When circumstances changed, we found ourselves looking for new opportunities,” Cameron said.
“We started joking about opening a business together, but then we just kept putting one foot in front of the other.”
For Chloe, the idea came from wanting to create something special close to home.
“As a young mum, I loved being able to go up the street, get a nice coffee and interact with people where I lived,” she said.
“I wanted to bring that here so other people could have that same experience.”
The café’s name, Three Little Donalds, was inspired by Chloe’s children.
“We always joked that if I ever had a café, I’d name it after my kids,” she said.
Located in an industrial area, the café trailer has steadily built a loyal customer base through word of mouth, attracting locals, travellers and truck drivers alike.
“People are still realising we’re here because it’s not your typical retail space,” Cameron said.
“But once they find us, they come back.”
The menu focuses on homemade baked goods, toasties and seasonal specials, with Chloe preparing everything fresh herself.
Toasties are made using Higgins bread from Shepparton, while seasonal offerings change throughout the year.
“In winter I’ll do things like soups and porridge or more filling meals,” Chloe said.
However, for the pair, quality has always been the priority.
“Quality was more important to us than anything else,” Cameron said.
“That’s why we wanted to start small and do things properly.”
Their shared love of food, coffee and hospitality continues to drive the business.
“We just love what we do,” Cameron said.
“We wanted to create a space where people can come in, relax and enjoy the experience.”
Three Little Donalds is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6.30am to 12.30pm, with occasional Sunday openings throughout the month.
Each week brings a seasonal winter special at Three Little Donalds, with Chloe Donald creating comforting dishes designed to suit the colder weather and available produce.
