Some 130 students from Murchison, Mooroopna, Mooroopna Park and Tatura primary schools were having a lesson from some of the state's best musicians in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
The MSO members, fresh off a concert in Shepparton the night before on Wednesday, April 28, were giving the GV's own budding musicians a few hints and tricks.
The three-hour event came together after Lindy Tennant, from Mooroopna and Tatura Primary Schools, got together with Nicole Thorne at Murchison Primary School and Mooroopna Park Primary to organise the music programs.
Mrs Tennant said it followed on from an event two years ago.
“There are some really strong band programs at these schools and this is a great transition into secondary college,” she said.
“We always love to get the students to get together to hold these wonderful concerts to inspire the kids.
“They love it and they're so excited. Two years ago when we did it the kids were so inspired and when they came back to their schools it was something they spoke about for a very, very long time.”
MSO acting principal of timpani Brent Miller led percussion groups on Thursday and said it was "great fun".
“For me this is what it's all about, inspiring young people to get into music regardless of what career they end up going into,” he said.
“It's a really rewarding experience for all the students and it's inspiring to see how much they get out of it.”
