For the first time, Shepparton will be part of a national roadshow to provide people with information about Churchill Fellowships. The unique Australian award supports people from diverse backgrounds to explore best practice in a field of their choice, anywhere in the world.
Winston Churchill Memorial Trust chief executive officer Adam Davey said the only prerequisites were passion and curiosity.
“The trust awards more than 100 Churchill Fellowships every year to people with all kinds of experience, who are willing to step outside their comfort zone,” Mr Davey said.
“Unlike more traditional academic fellowships, they are not given for tertiary study. In fact, no academic qualifications are required to apply.”
Mr Davey said the trust covered travel costs and living expenses for four to eight weeks, with fellowships worth an average of $29 000 each.
“Fellowships also open doors to expertise and experiences often unavailable to independent travellers, because the award is so widely recognised internationally,” Mr Davey said.
He said on returning to Australia Churchill Fellows were encouraged and supported to inspire change at a local level.
“As a result, they make a difference every day in all aspects of Australian life, across an incredibly broad range of sectors, such as agriculture, architecture and the arts, business management and building, science and sport, education and the environment, medicine and manufacturing, traditional lost trades and emerging technology,” he said.
Applications close on April 30.
People interested in applying are encouraged to attend the information session in Shepparton on Thursday, February 27, from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm at the Quest Hotel, Welsford St.
