Shepparton police Senior Constable Matt Clowes said police attempted to intercept a Holden utility on Wyndham St, Shepparton, near the Nixon St intersection about 1.10 am Sunday.
Sen Const Clowes said as a result of the intercept a police vehicle was allegedly rammed by the offending driver at the corner of Nixon and Wyndham Sts.
“The vehicle didn't remain at the scene, they took off,” he said.
Sen Const Clowes said police then initiated a pursuit due to the dangerous and erratic driving of the offender.
The vehicle was pursued through Mooroopna to Tatura before police terminated the pursuit shortly after due to "safety concerns for the community given the manner of the driving".
“There were no injuries to any persons involved, the police or the accused, however there was extensive damage to both the police vehicle and the offending vehicle,” Sen Const Clowes said.
Police confirmed investigations later that day identified the driver, a 38-year-old Ringwood East man.
He was arrested, interviewed, charged and bailed to appear at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in March next year.
Anyone who observed anything at the time of the offending is urged to phone Sen Const Matt Clowes at Shepparton Police Station on 5820 5777.
