Locals, particularly those who live in the bush or near bush or grassland, are encouraged to attend the Fire Ready Victoria meeting on Saturday to help them plan and prepare for the summer season.
District 22 community engagement co-ordinator Emily Guthrie said the meeting was held in different parts of town each year to help people at risk stay informed.
“This year it is near the river with some bushland around there — each year we move around and target different areas,” she said.
“However, the meeting is open to anyone to attend — they don’t have to live in that area.”
With temperatures set to rise in Shepparton over the next month, the meeting will address the upcoming weather outlook, how people can stay informed, general fire-safety information, how to prepare your property and travelling over summer.
Ms Guthrie said the meeting would also address bushfire danger ratings and what they mean for people in the area.
“We have already seen some extreme bushfire weather … it’s about making people aware of how they can access information and warnings and how they can prepare themselves and their household,” she said.
The Fire Ready Victoria meeting will be held this Saturday, November 23 at The Boulevard at Stuart Reserve, next to the playground from 10 am to 11 am.
The Shepparton fire tanker will be visiting and there will be a coffee vendor on site — coffee is free for those attending the meeting. Please bring a chair.
