Mr Dick was arrested yesterday morning after an assault in a Melbourne central business district laneway.
Mr Dick, 41, had been wanted for questioning over the murder of David Dick, who was brutally killed with a sword at Westfield Shopping Centre, Doncaster, on February 3, 2017.
A search for Mr Dick was conducted in Shepparton bushland in January this year after information was supplied to police to suggest he was hiding out in the area.
Police later said the information they received was investigated and found to not involve Mr Dick.
Police officers arrived at the car park on the corner of Flinders St and Hosier Lane in Melbourne shortly before 7.50am yesterday after reports that two men had restrained a third.
Mr Dick was arrested in relation to the existing warrant for murder and was taken to hospital under police guard, while two other men also injured in the incident were helping police with their investigation.
The exact circumstances leading up to the incident are yet to be determined, however police believe at least one of the men is known to Mr Dick.
Before his arrest, police believed Mr Dick was hiding out — possibly in someone's home or a hostel or boarding house — and getting by on cash-in-hand construction work.
He was also wanted for questioning over a hammer assault on a man at Keilor, five months after his brother's murder.
One of Australia's most-wanted fugitives, police last year offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Mr Dick's arrest.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
