Congestion concerns around new school

With the school population on the Hawdon St site set to grow exponentially in years to come, community members have their concerns about the congestion this may cause.

For several weeks, The News has received a number of letters from concerned parents and community members in regards to both traffic congestion and the public transport options.

The fears are not only focused on Greater Shepparton College (interim name) being located at the current Shepparton High School, but also relate to 2020, when different year levels will be located across the four government secondary colleges.

A Greater Shepparton City Council spokesperson said council was undertaking traffic studies in conjunction with Regional Roads Victoria, Major Road Projects Victoria and the Department of Transport in the area.

Working on a number of strategic transport network planning studies, these works will help inform of the need for intersection upgrades and the potential re-designation and upgrade of existing roads to form new link roads.

"The purpose of these reports is to provide sufficient information for council, RRV and MRPV to make traffic management interventions where appropriate to cut-down on travel time, make roads safer and ease congestion in and around Shepparton, in particular in the CBD area," the spokesperson said.

"The results of these traffic studies will inform future road planning and implementation of a better, safer and more efficient road network for all users across Shepparton."
