The local club has submitted an application for funding through the Service NSW My Community Project to build the town’s first outdoor exercise facility.
Grant recipients will be decided by a public vote.
The club’s committee — which is a volunteer committee of management — has initiated and scoped the need for infrastructure upgrades.
Its plan is to provide 18 exercise stations and a connected walking track.
Club secretary Janice Graham said improving playground facilities will encourage young families to use the club as a play space, host celebrations and showcase events.
‘‘The project will secure Berrigan as a key tourism destination and improve tourism across the region,’’ she said.
‘‘The fitness playground is vital for an ageing community, wellbeing and social connectivity.
‘‘Transforming this scenic venue to offer a greater range of sporting options will also enhance the health, wellbeing and engagement of the community.
‘‘Use of outdoor fitness and walking/running track will lead to healthier residents and it can also become a place for young children to play safely while the families are entertained.
‘‘It also gives local football, netball and cricket teams another venue option to hold weekly training sessions.’’
Mrs Graham said the club will guarantee value for money outcomes, ensuring the project is delivered at a reasonable whole of life cost.
‘‘This will involve the delivery of the project through an open procurement process, with realistic timelines and mechanisms that ensure the competitive delivery of the project, on time and on budget.
‘‘This project is vital sporting infrastructure for the long-term sustainability of the club as a not for profit, volunteer run organisation.’’
