In previous years, 300 participants — locals and visitors from across Victoria — have tested their skills against the paddle-steamer.
Sweat vs Steam has been around since 1998, but didn’t happen for the past two years because of the pandemic. It returns on Sunday, October 9.
The event starts at the historic Port of Echuca and follows the Murray River along an off-road trail through the bush, finishing back at the Port.
The paddle-steamer takes a similar route along the river.
It takes around 40 minutes for the 10km event; there is also a 5km event, and the kids’ dash is 1km.
“Entries are now open and we've had a great response so far,” organiser Sarah Mulkerans said.
“All funds raised go back into the community through our Community Foundation Grant.
“The categories are over different age groups from juniors to veterans and the aim of this event is raising money and support for anyone in the area — basically fundraising for community events like schools or Scouts, so anyone in the community can apply for funding.”
Applications are now open for individuals, schools, not-for-profit organisations or community groups to apply for funding, at: https://www.sweatvssteam.com.au/foundation
Online entries for Sweat vs Steam are open now and close on Friday, October 7.
Early bird pricing is $40 for adults and $20 for under-18 for the 10km event; and the 5km event is $30 adults and $15 for under-18. There is also a new kids’ dash which is just $5 for children aged 12 and under who want a shorter distance.
