Aussies tend to apply the adventure part of that quote to travel.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, three out of five Australians who went overseas in the 2024-25 financial year travelled for leisure.
And for every one of those five heading beyond our shores, there are many more taking short — or long — trips across our vast and varied landscape on home soil.
With much of the population confined to just four annual leave weeks a year, adventurers spend a lot of time in between holidays planning their next.

The News has introduced a brand-new travel podcast — Roam if you want to — for travellers looking to live vicariously through other Goulburn Valley travellers’ experiences abroad while waiting for that annual leave to bank up again.
Our first episode, hosted by News senior journalist Bree Harding, explores the pros and cons of cruise ship holidays with our guest, seasoned cruiser, Sandy Lloyd.
Our next will feature Camille Kennedy, who came into the studio to talk about her exhilarating journey on horseback through South Africa and Botswana, searching for African wildlife to observe in its natural habitat.
