In the documentary, award-winning director Damon Gameau explores what the future could look like by 2040 if the best solutions already available are embraced to improve the planet.
The film is structured as a visual letter to his four-year-old daughter addressing the issues our planet is currently facing, and includes high-end effects.
The council's chief executive officer Peter Harriott, who will speak before the film begins at 8.45 pm, encouraged residents to bring their family and friends to see what can be done to improve the future for our planet.
“This feature documentary outlines the opportunities we have, right now, to create a better planet by 2040,” he said.
“Simple and small changes can be made to our everyday lives that can make a large impact in setting up a brighter future for us all.
“I encourage our local residents to attend this screening, and really think about the changes they can make to make what we will see in the movie a possibility by 2040,” he said.
The Greater Shepparton screening of the documentary will be held at KidsTown, 7287 Midland Hwy, Mooroopna. The evening will kick-off with free interactive games, activities, information stalls and a barbecue at 7 pm.
Year 9 students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will also take part in driving toward a better planet by 2040, with elective subject My 2040: Saving the Planet included in the curriculum.
This screening is sponsored by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Climate Ready Hume Project.
