Beaming with pride, Year 12 students Beyatrise Ndikumwenayo and Blade Richardson accepted their new positions as school captains alongside City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Seema Abdullah.
One by one, 16 Year 12 students also received certificates recognising their new roles as school councillors, a position that has involved working on fundraisers and the design of the school T-shirt in the past.
Beyatrise said she was honoured to be named school captain.
“I feel really happy and proud of myself,” she said.
“I’ll talk to other kids to understand their needs and follow school expectations.”
Blade said he felt great when he heard the news.
“I’ll be kind, help students and teachers, and wear my school uniform every day,” he said.
“And I’ll certainly be getting my school work done on time.”
Verney Road School principal Angela Buxton said the captains would be role models for other students, working on a leadership group meeting and greeting special school guests while working with school councillors.
“We embrace the opportunity for our school leaders to participate in the wider community,” she said.
“The opportunities for them are endless and we work very hard to help with their pathways.”
Blade and Beyatrise began writing speeches on February 10, detailing a bit about themselves and why they would make good leaders, with the presentation on Tuesday the culmination of their hard work.
