Youth kicks off start to Dairy Week

International Dairy Week kicked off in Tatura on Sunday with a youth focus.

This year’s event, the largest of its kind in Australia, has seen a resurgence of interest with entries and interest reaching pre-COVID19 levels.

A total of 130 young people engaged in arena competitions on Sunday at Tatura Park, representing 13 teams from Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.

The youth challenge trials required teams to demonstrate clipping, parading and judging skills and the Sherri Martin showmanship classes followed.

On Monday, the all breeds national youth show will kick off the actual Dairy Week competition, followed by the national red and white show and the national Illawarra show.

On Tuesday, the Ayrshires and the Guernseys will take to the arena, followed by the Brown Swiss and the Jersey heifers.

A lot of attention will be focused on the Wednesday and Thursday competition when the Jerseys and Holsteins will compete.
