Hundreds attended a Christmas market and carols night in Murchison on Sunday, December 11.
It was the first chance for a community-wide get-together since the floods in the town in October, and the first time a community carols event had been held since 2019 after COVID-19 scuppered plans for the past two years.
Market stalls and family activities ensured there was plenty to do and see at the event at Murchison Riverside Gardens in Stevenson St.
A free community barbecue, as well as food trucks, ensured no-one went hungry, while entertainment in the form of Christmas carols came from local artists and children.
A visit by Santa on a fire truck was no doubt the highlight for many of the youngsters.
Event committee member and Murchison Neighbourhood House manager Louis Bowden was pleased with the turn-out, with about 300 people attending despite some rain.
“Loads of people turned up and had a great time,” he said.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for all members of the community to get together in celebration after a difficult couple of months.
“It was a wonderful springboard for more community celebrations in the future.”
Mr Bowden said Sunday’s event saw a broad range of community groups running stalls on the day.
