Senior assistant football coach Neale Poole visits the home to provide a club update to residents, and has organised deliveries each week of Weekender magazine copies through Goulburn Valley League board chair Jacqui Hudgson.
This gives residents the chance to read the Weekender and prepare some questions for Mr Poole when he visits.
Catie Hill of Euroa Health, who organised the visits, said they had become a wonderful opportunity for residents to get involved with the club.
“Both Neale and Jacqui jumped at the chance to help connect our residents to the local football and netball club, and the response has been wonderful to Neale’s update in the bar at GraniteHill on a Friday afternoon, which is known as Neale’s Front Bar,” she said.
Mr Poole said he had loved visiting Granitehill Aged Care to talk to the residents each week to learn more about them and their personal connection to sport in the region.
“It’s been a pleasure spending time with the GraniteHill residents each week and updating them on the fortunes of the local club football and netball teams and also discuss AFL, cricket, golf and tennis,” he said.
“It’s also a great way for the residents to get to know each other a little better through their present or past links to EFNC, as well as neighbouring clubs like Violet Town, Avenel and Seymour.
“Unbelievably residents share their stories with me of playing for Strathbogie, Miepoll and even in a women’s footy team for Avenel in the ’50s.”
