As Brandon Smith took the final steps towards completing a mid-year switch to South Sydney on Monday, a fired-up Robinson was forced to address speculation surrounding Young's future.
The form of Wallabies convert Mark Nawaqanitawase led to Young being dropped to reserve grade a fortnight ago, sparking suggestions the English Test winger could be set for a return to Newcastle just 18 months into a four-year deal with the Roosters.
It was claimed the Roosters had initiated the move, but Robinson said the frenzy of transfer speculation had been cooked up by the Knights and Young's management company to agitate for a mid-season release.
Adamant he never wanted to let Young leave, Robinson claimed the "annoying" speculation had turned the 23-year-old winger's life "upside down".
"The way it was put out there was that we were trying to push him out, which wasn't the case," Robinson said.
"I think they're trying to bluff us into it, but we didn't want it (a deal) to happen. We didn't instigate any of this."
The Roosters coach claimed the Knights and Young's management had broached the subject of a move for the winger last week.
But when push came to shove, Newcastle would only make a deal happen if the Roosters carried Young's salary on their cap for the rest of this season, something Robinson had no interest in entertaining.
"We've not had one discussion about letting Dom go at all," Robinson said.
"Then we get approached by Newcastle and his management, and they say, 'we want this to happen'. We say, 'fine, you take up the contract'.
"They want us to release him, but for us to pay money for it when we weren't even thinking about releasing him. In what world does that happen?
"You asked, you said that you had room in your cap, get it sorted. You threw a guy's life upside down for a week.
Robinson held clear-the-air talks with Young and said unless Newcastle's stance shifted, the winger would stay with the Roosters.
The three-time premiership-winning coach said the winger, who has scored 68 tries in 80 NRL appearances, had "done nothing wrong" and remained the next in line, should Nawaqanitawase or Daniel Tupou be unavailable.
Talk of Young's mooted move comes as Smith completed a medical with the Rabbitohs over the weekend.
The New Zealand Test hooker had already signed with Souths for 2026 and 2027 after a turbulent spell with the Roosters.
Smith remains six to seven weeks away from a full return to fitness following an anterior cruciate ligament rupture last season, meaning the Rabbitohs will be paying an injured player for the best part of two months.
Robinson said the move worked out financially for the Roosters and they would look to promote from within rather than shop around for a replacement.
"It's better for us financially and it's also better for the team you're going to to get a head-start," said Robinson, whose side have signed North Queensland No.9 Reece Robson to replace Smith next year.
"I think it was pretty clean in how it worked out."
