Plough into church lunch

A ploughman’s lunch is a cold meal of bread, cheese and onions usually with butter and pickles. Originating in England the meal sometimes includes additional items of ham, green salad, hard boiled eggs and apple.

This Thursday’s lunch is set to serve up the works with organisers cooking up a storm with a soup for starters, the cold meat, pickles and chutneys to name a few. This week the lunch is brought to you by the Uniting Church Adult Fellowship Group and Korrie Termorshuizen hopes it will bring a wide variety of people together.

‘‘I’ve been organising this day for many years and it’s always been very popular in the community,’’ she said.

‘‘We have people come from Rochester, Lockington and Elmore and some of the nursing homes bring along their residents.

‘‘All the proceeds go back into the community which is always very nice,’’ Korrie said.

‘‘It’s a lunch open to the whole community — absolutely anyone can come along.’’

The Ploughman’s Lunch starts at noon at the Echuca Moama Uniting Church Hall on the corner of Pakenham and Hare St. The event costs $15 per person. There will also be lucky door prizes and raffle to keep everyone entertained.
