The 18 year-old matched with Dylan Savy, an undefeated Victorian prospect, and put up a fair fight without faulting throughout the match.
Savy, a fast mover, bombed Charlton in round one and landed some good right hand shots to the body in round two.
Both fighters started fast and tried to get on top, the crowd roaring in favour of both men.
By round three both fighters were still going fast and hard, neither giving up nor slowing down until the bell went to end the contest.
The announcer said the result came to a split decision, three judges for one and two for the other.
As a result judges scanned their sheets for 15 minutes before announcing Savy as the winner.
Golden Rivers president Roy Lynn said he was proud of Charlton’s efforts saying he is one of the club’s great fighters.
‘‘Blake tries so hard and works very hard, he always fights the best.
‘‘In five fights it’s been two wins and three losses, each by a point,’’ Lynn said.
Riley Foord started with a quiet match before taking a turn with tough contest. He failed to block a right hand landing on his nose causing him to pull out of the match.
‘‘No one stood back half way into round three but he (Foord) had to pull out of the fight.
‘‘They all did very well, the kids are well trained which means we often end up fighting the best of the best but that’s the way it happens,’’ Lynn said.
The club encourages anyone interested to visit the gym and meet the committee, boxers and get involved.
The gym is open from 6.30pm Monday to Friday with a $5 entry fee that goes towards keeping the club open.
Roy Lynn trains on Monday and Wednesday, Jamie East on Tuesday and Paul Johnstone on Thursday.
