The report starts this week with the men’s pennant finals’ results even though it was the last event for the golfing week on Sunday.
With three Seymour teams representing the club there was great anticipation for the matches.
The Division 2 scratch team and the Restricted Handicap team both travelled to Euroa to play Broadford, while the Division 2 handicap team went to Broadford to take on Euroa.
Two out of the three teams had wins with both the Division 2 scratch team and the restricted handicap team doing enough to get over the line.
Unfortunately the Division 2 handicap team had a narrow loss but with two games decided on the 18th hole and two on the 19th hole they certainly can still hold their heads high.
It has been a terrific season for the men’s pennant and it was great that all teams made the finals, which was a result of the participation and commitment from so many men at the club.
Congratulations to all the men who took part over the season and in the finals and represented the club so well.
Going back to the start of the week, the women’s pennant team had a win when they hosted the fourth round of the season on Monday.
The team took on Euroa and had a good 3½ to 1½ win which definitely helps their chances of making the finals with only one round to go.
On Wednesday Anne Smith (36) was once again in the winner’s circle when she won the par round with minus-2 on a countback from Glenda Woods.
The extra competition was the best nine out score and that went to Marg Bailey with a square score.
The ball pool went to Anne Smith, Glenda Woods and Di Byrne.
In the men’s Wednesday results, Greg Pell (6) won A-grade with the top score of the day of 39 points.
Gary Neville (19) was the B-grade winner with 37 points.
Greg Pell was the nearest to the pin on both the sixth and 12th, Jerry Bender won the 17th while the fourth stayed with the club.
A score of 33 points was needed to be in the ball pool.
The mixed nine holes was won by Stubby Byrne (25) with 16 points on a countback from Phil Block.
Melva Gardner also made the ball pool with a score of 14 points.
A few of the women went to Strathbogie on Thursday to compete in the Strathbogie Bowl.
While a Seymour team lost the bowl win on a countback, Glenda Woods had a good win in B-grade with 39 points.
The Friday social six holes this week is stroke over holes 10-15 and Michael Papworth (21) had the best nett score of 21 to win.
The next best score went to Ian Richardson with nett 23.
Saturday was a stroke round and the rain held off to leave us with a mainly pleasant day, albeit a bit cooler towards the end.
The best score of the day was in B-grade with Phil Jarvis having 70 (84-14) to win that grade.
The A-grade winner was Luke Meredith who had 72 (81-9) winning on a countback from Mark Corradin and Mark Fountain.
C-grade also had a countback to decide the winner and Michael Papworth had 21 (92-71) to win over Mal Lundberg.
The best scratch score on the day was Mark Corradin with 73.
The nearest-the-pin on the fourth was Ian Richardson, the sixth went to Mark Fountain, on the 12th Sandy Cresswell was the closest and the 17th was won by Robert Oldman.
The drive and pitch on the eighth was Dave Pearce while the 15th went to Mark Corradin.
To be in the ball pool a score of nett 73 was required.
The women’s winner was Pam Jarvis who had a steady 72 (96-24).
Sue McCall was the nearest to the pin on the 17th.
The ball pool went to Pam Jarvis, Di Stammers, Glenda Woods and Di Byrne with 75.
Next Friday the social six holes is stroke over holes 1-6.
On Saturday the men are competing for the monthly medal while the women play stableford and the fourth round of the Silver Spoon.
Nagambie
The Nagambie Golf Club’s most sought after trophy, the Finnigan fourball was hard fought over two rounds of golf with round one leaders Michael Roberts and Michael LeDeux taking the honours.
The smart money favourites before the event delivered with a plus-6 on the final day for a two week total of plus-14 to take the win by a two hole margin; the two Michaels combined beautifully both weeks with some precision long hitting and being able to get the job done around the greens.
The surprise pairing last week of Doug Neville and Wayne LeCerf silenced the critics with a excellent back up performance of plus-4 and total of plus-12 to hold onto second place.
Third went to Ben Cassar and Alan Anderson putting up an honourable title defence with a total of plus-10.
The day’s competition was awarded to Michael Roberts and Michael LeDeux with their plus-6, finishing ahead of the John Richards and Mick O’Connell by countback also carding a plus-6.
The nearest-the-pins went to Jeremy Ezard getting lucky on the eighth, Dean Brown caressing one to the 13th and Bill Leviston doing his usual thing on the 16th.
The club would like to thank our sponsors for the Finnigan fourball — they are Dean Brown Carpet Cleaning and ABS Shepparton — as well as the efforts of ground staff in preparing the course.
Next week’s golf will be a monthly medal with D. Love on office duty and T. Baldwin in the bar.

Our women’s team sadly says farewell to Jenny Jeong who is moving to the Mornington Peninsula to live.
Jenny will be greatly missed by all members of NGC and we encourage her to come back to play as often as she can.

NTP was Dave Love. May 30 will be Stableford competition on the back nine with NTP on the 13th hole.
Avenel
The course just keeps improving, with the continuing mild weather ensuring good grass growth.
Thanks to the fellas who have jumped on the tractors to mow during the week, as it looks so much better with a ‘‘haircut’’.
The short course was played again on Saturday for the Monthly Medal round and some great scores were returned.
It was good to have Adam Harrop drop by for a round — he certainly enjoyed the course, scoring 87, nett 67 to easily win the day’s event.
As he was a visitor he wasn’t eligible for the Monthly Medal, but Bern Stevens was and he had his best round for some time with 84 off the stick for a nett 68.
Adam and Bern were ball winners and David Grecian picked up a ball for NTP on the 14th.
The ladies also played their Monthly Medal round on the short course.Marlene Hull had a very respectable nett 74 to claim the May Medal.
Marlene and Lyn Carracher (75 nett) were ball winners and Marlene collected another ball for NTP on the 18th (and she got the birdie putt).
Special thanks to Belinda Stevens from Avenel Pharmacy/The Daily Dose for donating the prize for the day’s event too.
The ladies’ pennant team travelled over to Trentham last Monday, only to be washed out before even hitting off.
They had to settle for a halved match with Lancefield, which meant they still occupy bottom spot on the ladder.
However the number crunchers tell us that they still have a chance at making the final if they had a good win at home on Monday.
They were to take on Trentham who were sitting in second spot — results next week.
Members are reminded that the Mabel Vearing Silver Salver is only a few weeks away.
There’s always jobs to be done to make the course look even better than it does now, so if you find you have a bit of time to spare, pop out to the course and do what you can to help.
In the meantime, good golfing to everyone.
