Corowa is holding a three-point buffer in second position on the District First Grade ladder after topping perennial power house Mt Beauty away on the weekend.

Winning the toss and batting, the Power were restricted in the early overs by some good bowling but wickets were hard to come by.
At 2/90 and with gun batter Ranaweera at the crease, they had a great launching pad to really put some pressure on the Roos. A flurry of wickets saw them reduced to 6/128 however.
Kade Wilson was mixing his pace up nicely and Dan Athanitis again took some important wickets. A strong partnership from Iaria and Betheras lifted the score before three late wickets left them finishing on 9/189 after the 45 overs.
Twenty-seven wides and four no balls marred the effort and would mean a late finish for the boys. Kade Wilson with 2/23 and Athanitis’ 3/36 from nine overs each spearheaded the bowling effort.
Kodee Lowe departed early for four but this brought together in-form Matt Grantham and youngster Jordan Eyers.
The two batted with great authority as they compiled a ripping 100-run partnership before Eyers was run out for a well-made 38.
The jump from junior to senior cricket is always difficult and it is great to see Eyers begin to be rewarded for his work ethic.
Grantham was out for 64, taking his run tally to 370 for the year at 53. This brought together unlikely cousins in Kade Wilson and Jarred Lane. An early reprieve for Lane was just the tonic as they put the game away in great style.
The addition of Lane post-Christmas has been and will continue to be huge in Corowa’s bid for a second consecutive flag.
Lane’s 44 not out and Wilson’s fifth score in the 30s of the year saw the Roos attain the target with three overs to spare.
Next week sees no cricket played before A Grade takes on Barnawartha/Chiltern on February 2.
Scores: Corowa 3/194 (42.5 overs) – A Randell 1/9, A Ranaweera 1/44, J Styles 0/25 defeated Mt Beauty 9/189 (45 overs) – D Athanitis 3/36, K Wilson 2/23, J Hansen 1/43, M Grantham 1/10.
B Grade
B Grade returned to the winner’s list with a three-wicket victory over Mount Beauty at Ball Park.
Bowling first, Greg Burgess got an early wicket but Mount Beauty looked on track for a large total as they cruised to 2/100 by the 17th over. A wicket to Doug Lavis changed the match as he removed danger-man Greg McLennan. Wickets began to fall with Scott Wilson collected one, then Lavis collected another while Luke Heagney and Burgess collected two each as Corowa was able to bowl Mount Beauty out in the 36th over for 143. Lavis finished with 3/24 off his eight overs, while Burgess (3/33) and Heagney (2/10) were handy in their five overs.
In reply Corowa lost an early wicket on 10, but with Shane Norman and Ryan Gale in good form they added 62 runs in nine overs to get the chase going, before Norman went for a well-made 50.
Gale made 23, but his dismissal along with three others left Corowa struggling at 7/116.
Doug Lavis was still in and along with Greg Burgesss safely saw Corowa to victory as they passed the total in the 34th over.
Lavis finished his solid match with 45 not out while Burgess was seven not out.
The side now has the next two weekends off.
C Grade
C Grade went down to Wodonga White at Martin Park by 33 runs.
Bowling first, Corowa got an early breakthrough with Danny Osborne. But some steady batting by Wodonga saw them bat out their 40 overs to finish at 8/157. Osborne bowled well to collect 3/23 off his eight overs, while Jason Raggett (1/15) and Mark Wallis (1/16) were tight off their eight overs. Youngster Riley Allan also bowled well taking 2/26.
In reply, Corowa struggled against a tight attack with only Liam Carter (30), Rick Carter (27 not out) and Alex Lavis (10) making it to double figures as Corowa finished their 40 overs at 8/124.
