Greyhound trainer faces SA baiting probe

A South Australian greyhound trainer has had their licence and registration suspended amid allegations of live baiting.

Greyhound Racing SA says it conducted a snap search of the trainer's property north of Adelaide on Wednesday, along with RSPCA inspectors.

"If confirmed, this would be the first case of live baiting ever recorded in South Australia," the organisation said in a statement on Thursday.

"Live baiting is an abhorrent practice and goes against everything Greyhound Racing SA stands for as an organisation, a sport and a community.

"We have an absolute zero-tolerance approach to any participant found to be in breach of those standards."

Under local rules of racing, any trainer found to be live-baiting faces a mandatory lifetime ban.

Greyhound Racing SA said it would also support theÂ RSPCA in any subsequent criminal proceedings.

The RSPCA said the trainer was present during yesterday's operation which followed the execution of a warrant.

It said several items were seized.

Live baiting is prohibited under SA's animal welfare laws with anyone found guilty facing a maximum four-year jail term or a $50,000 fine.
