There was no love lost between local Central Victorian League One Men’s rivals Shepparton United and Shepparton South on Sunday, with the two sides battling it out at McEwen Reserve.

The round 14 encounter started off tight, with neither side able to get ahead in the first half, before a big second stanza saw South run out 4-0 victors.

A goal to Glenn Murison soon after half time got the ball rolling for the visiting side, with Murison joined by Joel Aitken (65th minute), Sean Grant (75th minute) and Craig Carley (77th minute) on the score sheet.
South coach Rob Harmeston said it was a decent contest.
“We missed a lot of chances in the first half but took them in the second, so that was good,” Harmeston said.

"We were on top for the majority of it, we put a lot of pressure on and kept the ball really well, but the big thing was we couldn’t finish.
“It’s always good to beat your rivals, they had a lot of players out so we don’t want to get too excited about it, but it’s good to get results like that.”

Harmeston identified Kiwi Greg Nash as a standout on the day, with his impressive work rate up and down the pitch from left back.

He said with another big game coming up next week, the camp was in a good spot.
“The boys are pumped and looking forward to the challenge,” Harmeston said.
The result keeps South three points ahead of second-placed Tatura on the league table, with the Ibises securing another win on the weekend.

Tatura picked up a handy 6-0 result against La Trobe University at home, with Fraser Gosstray scoring three goals and Tristan Zito, Aaron Niglia and Zac Ferlauto all scoring one.

Meanwhile, in the League Two Men’s Cup, the Shepparton Jaguars went down to Strathdale 2-0.
