Victoria was named overall junior tri-series champions against New South Wales and Queensland at Cabra Bowls in New South Wales, as the under-18s boys were dominant in their section.
Across six rounds between Friday, August 7 and Sunday, August 9 - where Victoria would play New South Wales and Queensland once each in each round - the boys in navy blue would claim eight wins and four losses.
All wins came in clean sweeping fashion, winning the rinks either three to nil or six to nil, with Victoria’s 45 rink points 21 clear of second-placed NSW.
Victoria boys recorded a score difference of 81, the only tri-series boys team to finish in the positive, as NSW (-6) and Queensland (-75) suffered the consequence of Victoria’s domination on the green.
Shepparton Golf’s Charlie Boswood and Wunghu’s Jacob Cartwright were key parts of the results that saw the pair walk away as champions.
Victoria under-18 boys finished as state tri-series champions.
Meanwhile, the girls, which featured Hill Top’s Stephanie Locke and Wunghu’s Hayley Newby, produced a gallant showing to place second in their section.
Victoria won more matches than first-placed NSW’s under-18s girls, a 9-3 record over 12 games compared to NSW’s 7-5 record, but four of Victoria’s wins were determined by shots after splitting the rinks three apiece, while NSW was more comprehensive in its victories.
The ladder, determined by rink points, saw NSW claim first by seven, scoring 40 to Victoria’s 33, while Queensland finished with 16 for the tournament.
Still, the girls’ valiant performance coupled with the boys’ strong showing at Cabra was enough to see Victoria crowned overall champions of the state tri-series.
