Old Students double up with A2 SDTA flag

The pennant premiership wasn't the only success Old Students had on Saturday as they dominated McEwen Reserve Orange in the Shepparton District Tennis Association A2 decider.

Old Students won 8-50 to 1-22, with Alison Sinclair and Emily McClure defeating Kara Shields and Sally Plant for Orange's only rubber win.

McClure was also part of the biggest loss for Orange as she teamed up with Charlie Thomson in a 0-6 loss against Brenton Kiel and Shields.

Old Students president Aaron Plant praised the game of Wil Chong, who was an inclusion from the semi-final team.

“Wil Chong didn’t play the first final, but he really stood up on the day,” Plant said.

“Brenton Kiel and Sam Wieland won all their sets and we were able to capitalise on that dominance in the mixed as well.”

Plant was also all praise for Anthony Brophy who helped send the team into the grand final, but missed out playing in the season finale.

“The week before we had a final and the mixed set was the key to winning,” he said.

“Sally Plant and Anthony Brophy played that mix and Anthony came in for an injured player and helped us get over Shepparton North.”
