Dhurringile takes final GM3 Open finals spot after Nathalia crumbles

Heartbreak and elation is common at this time of year for summer sporting teams and those involved in Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association were no exception during Saturday's final round.

In the GM3 Open division, Nathalia's large loss to Cobram left the door open for Dhurringile and it took the opportunity with both hands.

Cobram, which finished as the minor premier, defeated Nathalia 9-72 to 0-24.

Rod Armstrong and Helen Bruni were the pick of the Cobram winners as they knocked off Rod James and Matthew Slattery 8-0.

Three other results went Cobram's way 8-1.

Dhurringile won 8-66 to 1-35 against Kyabram Bombers to find itself a finals spot.

Three of Dhurringile's set wins were 8-2 results, while Kyabram's only rubber was won by the same scoreline.

Fellow finals-bound teams Tongala and Numurkah finished off their regular seasons with six rubbers to three wins.

● Tongala snuck into the GM3 West finals at the expense of Kyabram Bombers.

Tongala was victorious 9-92 to 4-61 against fellow Kyabram side the Redbacks.

The winning line-up dominated from start to finish with the Redbacks winning the last two rubbers to add some respectability to the scoreboard.

The Bombers, on the other hand, were no match for third-placed Tatura Hurricanes, which won 12-94 to 1-39.

The Bombers’ only rubber win came in the 10th, as Greg Tarrant and Taylor Sutton won 8-2.

Tatura's other team in this division, Storm, also easily won against Lockington-Bamawm United in the top versus bottom clash.

Storm won 11-93 to 2-56.

● Kyabram Bombers and Tatura Tornadoes swapped places in the GM3 East division, but both teams will still get a chance at glory.

The Bombers won 9-84 to 4-55 against Kialla Park Gold, which finished eight points behind the Tornadoes in fifth.

Numurkah Penguins made sure they will get a second chance by easily accounting for Mooroopna, which won the wooden spoon.

The Penguins won 11-94 to 2-33 to set up a match-up with Nathalia in the first week of finals.

● Rich River Rebels gave up the second chance in the GM1 division by forfeiting their match against Shepparton Hornets and Shepparton Bulls took full advantage.

The Bulls won 8-74 to 2-52 against Numurkah Warriors, with three rubbers going the Bulls’ way 8-3.

Echuca Lawn and Bendigo South also recorded victories in the top flight heading into finals.

● Mooroopna Jets finished off their disappointing winless season by forfeiting to Yarrawonga in the GM2 Mixed competition.

In the other matches, Stanhope was too good for Numurkah, Cobram defeated Kialla Blue and the Celtics beat the Pelicans and the Lions knocked off the Saints in the two Shepparton derbies.
