Staff at the public health service received a memo on Thursday, August 27, to advise them of Mr Sharp’s resignation from the top position, effective November 27.
Mr Sharp has been chief executive of GV Health for more than eight years, commencing in June 2018.
“I have decided that the time is right to seek greater balance and take some time to recharge,” Mr Sharp said of the move.
“GV Health has meant a great deal to me during my eight years as chief executive. I am proud of what we have achieved together through a period of significant growth, change and challenge, and grateful to the board for its support throughout that time.
“While I understand this decision may come as a surprise to many, it is not the result of any single event, but the outcome of deep and careful personal reflection over recent months.”
He said that after finishing up in November, he would take a break before considering the next stage of his career.
Before taking on the Shepparton-based role, he was Eastern Health’s clinical operations executive director.
Mr Sharp has a clinical background in nursing, with Nursing (Hons), Post Grad Dip (Critical Care Nursing), Masters of Business, GAICD, FACHSM qualifications to his name and has worked in executive and managerial positions across rural, regional and metropolitan areas throughout his career.
It is not yet known where Mr Sharp is moving on to or who his successor will be.
GV Health Board Chair Michael Delahunty said the board would soon commence recruitment for the role.
