If the members of the Nagambie Rowing Club had not been stationary, they would have almost made it to Sydney.

A 15-person team has been racking up kilometres at Buckley Park Boathouse for the Monthly Metre Madness.
Each year the World Rowing Corporation sets a global challenge to those wanting to stay fit or get fit.
The event begins every year in mid-March and goes until mid-April. The challenge is for teams and individuals to row as many metres as possible in that time.
More than 4000 competitors took part, averaging a whopping 105039m per person or roughly 3500m per day, every day.
Coach Sue Andrews read about the event on Facebook and thought she would challenge her rowers to count their metres in May.
Rowers rolled in to Buckley Park at 5.45am on Tuesdays and Fridays to get their metres in.
‘‘The ergometer (rowing machine) is a staple of any gym. You see all manner of people thrashing about on them during their warm-ups,’’ Sue said.
‘‘The rowing machine is the only apparatus required for a solid, all-over workout. It is under-utilised by most people. Using proper technique, injury risk is low, your whole body gets a workout and if rowed regularly, it will help maintain weight loss.’’
Sue said exercising on a rowing machine was something she would encourage everyone to do.
‘‘Age is no barrier. Our youngest member is 12 and our oldest is 66,’’ she said.
‘‘I would encourage people to come to the club and give it a go. It’s great fun when you have some people to talk to while exercising.’’
If you would like to try rowing, head to Buckley Park at 5.45am on Tuesdays or Fridays, Tuesday afternoons at 5.30pm, Wednesday afternoons at 4.30pm or Sunday at 9.30am.
