After the search for a new suitable horse, a sizable donation has helped Shepparton Riding for Disabled buy Clydesdale-cross Arnold.
The 14-year-old gelding was partly funded through a donation from the Soroptimist International Shepparton branch and some members visited the stable to meet Arnold.
Coach Rhona Meyers introduced Arnold and explained an RDA horse had to be a special kind of horse.
‘‘They need to be quiet, patient and generous, they also need to be fit and capable of learning and responding riders, leaders and other horses,’’ she said.
RDA enables people with disabilities to experience enjoyment, challenge and a sense of achievement through participation in equestrian activities.
Across Victoria RDA conducts 10000 riding lessons a year.
‘‘Volunteers and riders at Shepparton RDA would like to thank Soroptimist International, Shepparton for their support because without community support such as this Shepparton RDA would not exist,’’ secretary Cathy Hamilton said.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at Shepparton RDA, phone secretary Cathy Hamilton on 58265177. Horse experience is not essential as volunteer training is available.
